Citizen Spotlight: Mike “Bachi” Bacigalupi
At Pacific Project Heroes, we believe in honoring those who serve — not only in uniform, but in heart, in action, and in spirit. Few individuals embody that belief more fully than Mike “Bachi” Bacigalupi — a local legend, a quiet leader, and a man whose commitment to his community spans decades.
Mike is the proud owner of the historic H-B Bar in Oakdale, CA — a family-owned and operated landmark that began in 1939 under the name “The Club.” In 1952, the establishment relocated just down the street and was renamed the H-B Bar, where it continues to serve as a cornerstone of Oakdale hospitality and tradition. Mike took over the business in 1978, carrying on a multigenerational legacy of connection, celebration, and service.
A U.S. Air Force veteran (1970–1972) and son of a U.S. Navy veteran, Mike’s dedication to service runs deep. He’s been a tireless community builder for over four decades, pouring his time, energy, and generosity into causes that uplift others.
- Mike served as the Track & Field Coach at Oakdale High School for 23 years (2002–2025), shaping young lives with discipline, encouragement, and heart.
- He is a founding board member of the Guardian House, a shelter supporting high-risk and abused children, and hosts an annual toy drive at the H-B Bar where all dinner proceeds benefit the shelter.
- He sits on the board of the Oakdale Cowboy Museum, and co-founded the Cowgirl Luncheon, held each year at the H-B.
- Mike is also the board treasurer of the California Team Roping Association (CTRA) and plays a vital role in preserving Western heritage in the region.
- Every Thanksgiving, Mike participates in the Spirit of Oakdale, ensuring no one in the community goes without a warm meal or connection.
Mike is also instrumental to the success of Pacific Project Heroes. For the past 15 years, he has generously provided bar service — alcohol, bartenders, and hospitality — at our annual Heroes Dinner, our largest fundraising event of the year. He also proudly hosts the Veterans Breakfast, offering a free, heartfelt meal each year to honor local veterans and their families.
Beyond our major events, Mike continually opens the doors of the H-B Bar to support our mission throughout the year. From tailgate parties to fundraising events, he donates his kitchen, dining rooms, and staff to ensure our gatherings are successful and welcoming. His generosity and support are a cornerstone of what makes Pacific Project Heroes thrive.
In December, Mike organizes the festive Santa Crawl, a community bar-hop fundraiser that starts at the H-B and raises funds for Wreaths Across America, honoring veterans laid to rest across the country.
From mentoring students to serving veterans, feeding the community, and giving without fanfare, Mike “Bachi” Bacigalupi is a shining example of what it means to lead with humility, purpose, and heart.
We are proud to honor Mike as our Citizen Spotlight — and deeply grateful to call him a friend of Pacific Project Heroes.
